What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Valuation - Senior Manager position at Perkins & Co?
The work location for this role is flexible, but due to the nature of the work, preference will be given to those located in the Pacific Northwest. Unfortunately, we are not able to hire those who live outside the U.S.
We are adding a Senior Manager to our Business Valuation (BV) team! Are you someone who gets excited and a little nerdy about valuation work, loves working with fun and smart people, and is ready to make your mark? This could be the role for you!
What you’ll be doing
Nobody works in a silo here, and Work Together isn’t just one of our core values, it’s literally how we operate daily. As a BV Senior Manager, you’ll collaboratively lead and execute challenging valuation engagements by participating in all aspects of valuation projects, from start to finish - letter of engagement through completed reports. You’ll use your strong analytical skills and understanding of business valuation methodologies to establish the value of businesses, business interests, and intangible assets for estate and gift planning, M&A and other transactions, business succession planning, disputes, litigation support, tax planning and compliance, financial reporting, and other corporate-related matters. All this variety keeps things exciting, and means that you will have to be flexible, creative, and nimble amid regular changes while demonstrating resilience to meet multiple deadlines.
You’ll research companies, their industries, and competitors, inspecting and analyzing financial statements and data to assess operational profitability and financial conditions. You’ll construct financial modelling to develop and review cash flow forecasts, perform benchmark analysis, and create the narrative report of your valuation analysis. From time to time, you will be called to confidently and competently testify in court proceedings.
The job is not all sitting behind a computer, pouring over data. Far from it! Success in Advisory Services depends on the ability to cultivate strong relationships and having a keen eye for opportunities to lend additional value to our clients. Business development will be a large part of your role, which will entail attending industry events or mixers, writing industry specific blog posts, and getting involved in local business groups (Estate Planning Council, OEN, etc.)
Finally, this is a supervisory role, so you’ll mentor other members of the team on all of the above.
Requirements
What makes you a fit for this role?
- ABV or ASA credential is required; CFF, CFA, or CPA credentials are desired
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Financial Planning or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- You’re someone who can shift between the steadiness of compliance work and the high / low of transaction advisory work. You have a track record of independently managing time and work projects effectively, including establishing project goals, tracking status, and communicating results / recommendations
- You’re a solid supervisor and leader for your team and model of putting ego aside to roll up your sleeves (everyone on the team wears multiple hats)
- You’re good at business development, and look forward to facilitating growth of the practice
- Your work experience has helped you become an expert using Excel and advanced in Word, adept at written and verbal communication, and given you some depth of exposure to business agreements, M&A agreements, estate documents, financial statements, accounting, and taxation (typically this would be acquired via 8 or more years in accounting, finance, or financial planning roles)
Benefits
What’s in it for you?
Joining our small and mighty BV team comes with great opportunity for growth, both in terms of revenue for the practice and your career progression. And you won’t be going it alone, unlike how it can be at boutique firms. You’ll enjoy the camaraderie, resources, and collaboration of Oregon’s largest locally owned accounting firms and the dynamics of a small, close-knit BV team—the best of both worlds! Of course, there’s also competitive pay, benefits, and perks.
The salary range is $150K - $175K annually plus bonus and commission eligibility. Additional compensation may be available for those who live in areas with a higher cost of labor than Portland, OR.
We also offer a 401(k) profit sharing plan with immediate vesting of employer contributions; 14.5 paid holidays, 5 weeks of paid time-off (PTO), and Perkins Paid Leave Plan, which provides up to 12 weeks of paid leave for bonding with a new child, medical care for yourself or a family member, and other needs.
