Description:
Perkins High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated school counselor. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a student-centered learning environment promoting academic success, social-emotional well-being, and career exploration while possessing exceptional communication skills as an experienced, internally motivated, and creative learner.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following characteristics or have experience in the following areas:
Student Success and Support:
Provide comprehensive academic, career, and social-emotional counseling to a motivated student population, adhering to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model and Ohio School Counseling Evaluation System (OSCES) Standards
Develop and deliver innovative programming, including classroom guidance lessons, large group presentations, and special events
Meet with students individually to develop academic plans, explore career options, address personal challenges, and guide them through the college exploration and application process
Partner with families to discuss course options, college and career goals, and navigate Ohio’s College Credit Plus Program, career technical education (Excel TECC), and Perkins High School curricular options
Track student progress to ensure high school graduation requirements are met
Collaboration and Advocacy:
Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and community partners to identify student needs, develop interventions, ensure student success, and provide enriched educational experiences
Advocate for students by playing an active role in building and district level teams including the Threat Assessment and Crisis Response Teams while performing suicide risk assessments and making referrals to community mental health agencies
Facilitate open communication and build trust with students, parents and staff to ensure all parties feel heard and supported
Closely collaborate with the special education department to assist students with accommodations for local, state, and national testing and similarly-related tasks
Data-Driven Improvement and Professional Growth:
Analyze data to inform and drive action on program development, effectiveness, and delivery of building and district needs while leveraging ASCA and OSCA standards as a framework
Continuously develop professional skills and knowledge to stay up-to-date on evidence-based and best practices in school counseling
