Perkins Solutions is a subdivision of Perkins and is responsible for the manufacture and service of the world's leading braille writer. We are looking for an experienced and skilled Machine Operator to join our team to perform final bench assembly of standard Braille writer units. You will play a crucial role in maintaining client partnerships, ensuring customer satisfaction with our products and helping Perkins Solutions meet our production targets. You will have the opportunity to gain experience with a diverse array of machines and become part of a knowledgeable and supportive team. You will assemble complete units, ensuring high-quality standards, and conducting thorough testing and inspection.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Prepare machines for production by calibrating and cleaning them and conducting regular tests to check the operation of the machines
- Adjust machine settings, such as speed, to ensure optimal performance.
- Supply raw materials or components to semi-automated machines.
- Inspect parts using precision tools to ensure quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues, monitor output to identify and address any machine-related defects or errors.
- Maintain records of approved and defective units, as well as final products.
- Keep detailed activity logs for tracking purposes.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree is a plus
- Minimum one-year factory related experience, ideally as a machine operator
- Experience in mechanical assembly or a related field.
- Proficiency with assembly tools, gauges, and inspection procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of production procedures
- Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of protective gear)
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
- Physical stamina and strength
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
- Some occasional light lifting up to 45 lbs.
- Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
