Perkins School for the Blind is dedicated to helping students with disabilities reach their full potential. We're looking for a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to join our team of experts delivering individualized education and support to visually impaired and multiply disabled students.
Responsibilities:
- Provide orientation and mobility instruction to students, focusing on developing safe travel and daily living skills.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), setting realistic goals and objectives.
- Train students to navigate diverse environments safely and independently, using assistive technologies when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, conducting regular evaluations and assessments.
- Supervise students and occasionally manage Teaching Assistants or interns.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from a reputable institution and ACVREP Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Instructor.
- Two years of experience teaching visually impaired students with additional disabilities is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of modern teaching methods, effective communication skills, and strong problem-solving abilities are essential.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to operate school vehicles are required.
- High stress tolerance, physical stamina, and flexibility are necessary traits for this role.
