Job Title: Orientation and Mobility Specialist
Job Summary:
This role involves working as part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver individualized educational and pre-vocational programs for visually impaired or multiply disabled students. The ideal candidate will have expertise in orientation and mobility, a strong background in teaching and assessment, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement programs tailored to each student's IEP, focusing on orientation and mobility skills.
- Develop and lead training sessions to equip students with the skills necessary for independent travel and daily living.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to set realistic goals and objectives for each student and ensure continuity of program services.
- Establish and maintain a supportive learning environment, consulting with support staff as needed.
- Conduct written functional vision assessments and provide regular feedback to stakeholders.
- Supervise students and occasionally oversee Teaching Assistants or interns.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized institution and ACVREP Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Instructor.
- Master's degree with ACVREP Certification and two years of experience teaching visually impaired students with additional disabilities is preferred.
- Knowledge of modern teaching techniques, ability to plan evaluations, and effective communication skills are essential.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to operate school vehicles.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, high stress tolerance, and physical stamina are required.
