What are the responsibilities and job description for the Warehouse Material Handler position at Perley Cable Construction?
Job Summary: The Warehouse Material Handler is responsible for maintaining the construction yard and keeping accurate records of materials entering and leaving the yard. This role ensures all materials are organized, accessible, and properly inventoried. You are responsible for matching inbound orders to their purchase orders and verifying the correct quantity and product have been delivered. The Material Handler communicates with subcontractors as well as in-house crews to ensure materials are available and ready when needed.
The office is located in Bonita Springs, however, the construction yard and primary work location is in Punta Gorda.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Ensure all yard items are organized, accessible, and accounted for.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards. Ensure contractors abide by yard rules. Follow yard lease agreement.
- Monitor and coordinate various activities within the yard. Know when a contractor is coming and for what.
- Maintain accurate communication and records. Packing slips/invoices/BOL
- Attend construction progress meetings.
- Report problems and safety hazards to the safety director.
- Keep the yard/office clean and neat.
- Unload delivery trucks and use hand trucks or forklifts to move shipments.
- Compare packing lists to purchase orders to ensure accurate deliveries.
- Sort and stock receivables.
- Maintain an accurate log sheet of daily moves.
- Inform management when there isn't enough of a particular product to fulfill contractor needs.
- Distribute products to other departments.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Should be knowledgeable about materials common to conduit construction and fiber optics
- Must be organized and proactive in anticipating future needs
- Must be comfortable with Microsoft products, particularly Outlook and Excel
- Experience with inventory management software preferred
Education and Experience:
- OSHA 30 and forklift certifications preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit and stand various times during the workday.
- Will intermittently work in outside (hot) conditions.
- Requires walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, gripping, grasping, and other repetitive motions.
- Must be able to frequently lift, move, and carry 10 – 20 pounds, as well as light to medium weight materials by hand. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds could be required.
- Intermittently noisy environment.
- Must be able to work near mechanical moving parts, forklifts, trucks, etc.
