What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Scheduling Coordinator position at Perlmutter Eye Center?
Perlmutter Eye Center is a physician owned Ophthalmology practice committed to excellence in the Capital Region. We are in search of an experienced surgical scheduling coordinator to support our high volume practice. Candidates must have Ophthalmology scheduling experience and possess outstanding organizational and time management skills. Salary commensurate with experience.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
These tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
- Greeting patients
- Reviewing surgery plan and understanding patient needs for each type of surgery
- Reviewing consents/questionnaire with patients
- Navigating electronic medical record
- Scheduling surgery
- Reviewing surgical info with patient
- Informing patient of pre and post op instructions
- Reviewing medications
- Scanning surgery packets
- Completing booking packets
- Using surgery wait list
- Calling for surgical clearances
- Timely answering of phone calls, emails, voicemails, and messages in the medical records system
- Stocking surgery scheduling supplies (e.g. folders, bags)
- Navigating external websites (e.g. surgery center, LabCorp)
- Processing electronic faxes
- Assisting with calls in the phone queue in periods of high call volume
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be a decent human being
- Must have Ophthalmology surgical scheduling experience
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Excellent organizational, communication and customer service skills
- Must be proficient with Windows-based applications and medical records systems

Environmental/Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a medical office. Involves frequent contact with the public, staff, and physicians. Work may be stressful at times. Work may involve exposure risk to communicable diseases. Contact will at times involve dealing with challenging situations and upset people. Possible exposure to chemical hazards.
Physical/Mental Demands:
Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation, stooping and bending to files and supplies, mobility to assist with moving patients, charts and objects throughout the office, at times sitting or standing for extended periods. Most possess visual and auditory acuity in order to communicate with co-workers, patients and other customer groups. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
