Description
Non-Exempt – The Support Technician – Radiological (STR) directly supports environmental health and safety and the implementation of the Radiation Control Program at Perma-Fix of Florida.
Duties
· Provide radiation support for operations and project support throughout the facility based on daily needs.
· Performs air sampling, radiation surveys, and radioactive contamination control monitoring.
· Conducts personnel and equipment surveys.
· Implements access control measures such as posting and labeling and completion and management of records, ensuring personnel are meeting the radiation work order/radiation work permit requirements.
· Responds to accidents and emergencies.
· Performs and documents daily instrument source and function checks.
· Generates radiological data, records, and reports.
· Provides radiation safety job coverage.
· Performing and documenting radiation surveys of radioactive material shipments.
· Report potential noncompliance conditions.
· Advise and assist Radiation Workers on the proper use, care, and wearing of protective clothing and equipment.
· Respond to radioactive spills and contaminated personnel.
· Post and maintain radiological boundaries.
Requirements
· Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. Or a combination of education and experience.
· 5 years of experience performing radiation and contamination surveys, operating swipe and air sampling counting equipment, and performing radiation monitoring at a nuclear facility or experience and training per the discretion of the Radiation Safety Officer.
· Advanced training and/or equivalent experience in radiation protection and control.
· Good verbal, communication, and written skills.
· Knowledge of DOT, State, and other Federal regulations.
· Advanced training and/or equivalent experience in gamma/alpha spectroscopy desirable.
Eligibility Requirements
· Demonstrate proficiency in leading and directing the implementation of the Radiation Safety Program; planning and implementation of all radiological work controls and monitoring of facility conditions to assess trends and determine protective measures.
· Ability and willingness to pass written or oral technical examinations to demonstrate qualification for position.
· Ability and willingness to wear protective clothing, and follow strict radiation guidelines
· Ability and willingness to wear half and full-face respirators
· Ability and willingness to climb ladders or work in enclosed environments
· Ability and willingness to lift (occasionally) 20 to 75 lbs.
· Maintain a current Sit Down, Counter-Balanced Lift Truck operator’s license.
