Description
FUNCTION:
Non-exempt. This position is responsible for performing waste processing and treatment activities for the nuclear waste segment at Perma-Fix of Florida treatment, storage, and disposal facility (TSDF).
DUTIES:
- Regulatory compliance
- Waste processing and/or treatment in accordance with established procedures
- Initiation and maintenance of daily process logs
- Verification of materials stored and processed for QA/QC
- Container handling (palletizing, ringing, stacking, and labeling)
Daily processing activities may include working with the following:
- Hazardous/non-hazardous organize and aqueous radioactive matrices
- Hazardous and non-hazardous radioactive solids/sludge
- Decommissioning of hazardous and non-hazardous radioactive lab packs
- Mercury and other elemental heavy metals, asbestos, potential blood-borne pathogens, etc.
- Various chemical reagents (organic, aqueous, oxidizers, acids, bases, etc.)
- Industrial processing type equipment
- Recommend management action to improve standard operating procedures
- Initiation of nonconformance, incident and near miss reporting
- Identify and requisition processing supplies and reagents
- Interacts with facility personnel to achieve departmental objectives
- Department level quality assurance
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent (college, vocational or job training in a technical field preferred)
- 40-hour OSHA Hazwoper Certification with current 8-hr refresher
- 16-hour radiation safety training with current 4-hour refresher
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Personality conducive to teamwork
- Ability to follow written and oral directives
- Facility equipment operations level training
- Facility waste operations training
- Facility quality assurance program operations level training
- Annual respirator fit test qualified and ability to function in all levels of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Written and verbal communication skills

- Ability to multitask
- Capacity to apply analytical evaluation to assigned work
- Sit down, counter-balanced lift truck operator's license
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Heavy lifting, exposure to excessive noise during floor operations, ambient weather conditions/seasonal extremes of temperature, use of a particular mask, air-purifying respirator; Tyvek or other protective equipment required, working with radioactive and hazardous waste to include chemical reagents, use of industrial processing equipment and tools.
