Summary

The RMC Batchman position is a skilled position requiring a thorough understanding of the ready-mix concrete business. The Batchman controls the process to produce concrete from raw materials and additives according to predetermined specifications using computer batching software. Verifies correct admixtures are used in correct dosages and provides verification that the concrete batched meets the specifications established by the company and the customer. This position requires day-to-day interaction with other employees.

Functional Responsibilities

Exhibit a strong work ethic with the ability to take direction and work in a team setting and independently.

Adhere to Permian Basin Materials Code of Conduct and company policies.

Have a thorough working knowledge of the computer batching system to coordinate measurements of concrete mix according to customer needs.

Able to produce concrete products to required specifications.

Able to verify each load for yardage, mix, added products and all other quality information.

Operate equipment safely and efficiently.

Receive and inspect raw materials.

Keep required records and logs.

Monitor inventories in the plant – cement, flash, and admixtures.

Coordinate with dispatch to ensure drivers efficiently manage loads and time.

Oversee the cleaning of the central mix plant.

Define problems, collect data, and communicate with management.

Adhere to policies regarding handling of cash and delivery tickets.

Comply with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other Company policies and procedures.

Maintain a neat and orderly work environment.

Perform other duties as directed.

Competencies

Mathematical skills including weights and measurement conversions.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent

Concrete batching experience preferred with ACI certifications required within first year of service.

Batchman I - 2 years Batching experience; Plant Volume up to 50k CY

Batchman II - 5 years Batching experience; Plant Volume 50k – 75k CY

Batchman III - 10 years Batching experience; Plant Volume 75k CY

A valid driver’s license with no major violations that would exclude a person from driving for business as defined by our insurance carrier and company policy.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidate must be drug free.

Position requires moderately strenuous physical work.

Must be able to:

Lift and carry up to 45 pounds from floor to 3’ – 5’ occasionally,

Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds frequently,

Climb in and out of equipment 50 times per day,

Climb up and down ladders occasionally,

Sit or stand for extended periods of time,

Use hands, fingers, and feet to operate and/or service heavy construction machinery and concrete mixers and haul trucks,

Travel safely while walking and while operating heavy machinery and/or trucks over uneven terrain, roads, and pavement,

See, hear, and respond to verbal, visual, and written instructions and to moving heavy construction machinery,

Wear proper protective equipment including hard hat, safety glasses, high visibility clothing, steel-toed boots, and gloves,

Observe all company Safety policies on company premises and while operating heavy construction machinery,

Continually work in extreme hot and cold weather conditions,

Work safely in wet, muddy, and slippery conditions occasionally,

Environment will vary from outdoors with varying noise levels and vibrations associated with construction.

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • Weekends as needed
