JOB SUMMARYThe Forklift Repair Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing forklifts and other material handling equipment used in the food manufacturing environment. This role ensures that all equipment operates efficiently and safely to support the production and logistics teams. The mechanic will also perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, especially those pertaining to the food industry.

JOB SUMMARYThe Forklift Repair Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing forklifts and other material handling equipment used in the food manufacturing environment. This role ensures that all equipment operates efficiently and safely to support the production and logistics teams. The mechanic will also perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, especially those pertaining to the food industry.
Essentialfunctions
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to minimize downtime and ensure safe operation.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues with forklifts and equipment; determine the root cause of malfunctions and repair them in a timely manner.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with OSHA and food safety regulations, including proper handling of tools and materials in a food processing environment.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools; order replacement parts as necessary and ensure proper documentation and storage.
- Document all maintenance and repair work performed, including work orders, parts used, and hours worked.
- Work closely with the operations and logistics teams to understand equipment usage and address any issues or concerns promptly.
- Provide training and guidance to forklift operators on proper equipment use and safety procedures.
- Respond to emergency repair requests, ensuring that critical equipment is back on line quickly to minimize disruption to production.
- Recommend and implement equipment upgrades or modifications to improve efficiency and safety.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a forklift mechanic, preferably in a food manufacturing or similar environment.
- Certification in forklift repair and maintenance; OSHA certification is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, with expertise in diagnosing and repairing electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with food industry regulations and standards, including GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points).
- Ability to lift heavy objects, stand, bend, and work in various environmental conditions (e.g., cold storage areas).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
