Sewing Machine Operator/ Inspector
Job Summary
This position requires initial inspection and sewing (repair) of dress covers. Inspection and sewing will cover missing stitches, holes, tears, velcro, placards and panel replacements on leather or vinyl. Repetitive and/or hand sewing is required.
Essential Functions
- Physical receiving of goods.
- Proper placement and organization of covers into quarantine area.
- Proper boxing and labeling of covers.
- Accurate physical check-in of covers, noting discrepancies on Summary Shipment
Report (SSR-01) and notifying customer service representative to contact customer.
- Disposition of covers – determining whether the covers are rejected, accepted, scrapped or sewn, etc.
- Examines and inspects leather or vinyl for part number, missing stitches, holes, tears and panel replacement.
- Remove various worn components and panels from dress covers and replace with new or refurbished parts or panels.
- Activates and adjusts machine controls to regulate stitching speed and length, dimensions of gathers and tucks, and material or thread tension.
- Monitors machine operation to detect problems, such as defective stitching, breaks in the thread, or machine malfunction.
- Places spools of thread and threads ends through machine guides and components.
Inserts bobbin.
- Positions materials and maneuvers under sewing machine presser foot and needle during operation.
- Sews materials by hand, using needle and thread.
- Document quantities and work performed.
- Perform additional duties as needed by Production Manager or Inventory Analyst/ Chief Inspector.
Education / Skills / Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Superb attention to detail.
- Experience in industrial sewing machine operation, leather sewing preferred.
- This position is FAA regulated and requires pre-employment and random drug testing if hired.
