Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of criminal litigation. This role requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and a commitment to supporting attorneys in their legal practices. The Paralegal will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our legal services.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management & Filing
- Prepare and electronically file pleadings, motions, and other legal documents using MEC.
- Maintain and organize case files, ensuring compliance with deadlines and court procedures.
- Monitor case dockets and track filing deadlines, court dates, and other critical timelines.
Legal Document Preparation
- Draft pleadings, discovery requests, subpoenas, and correspondence under attorney supervision.
- Assist in drafting motions, affidavits, and legal briefs.
- Proofread and edit legal documents for accuracy and compliance with court rules.
Trial Preparation & Support
- Assist attorneys in preparing exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders.
- Organize and summarize case evidence, depositions, and witness statements.
- Coordinate witness interviews.
Client & Attorney Support
- Communicate with clients regarding case updates, scheduling, and document requests.
- Conduct legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, or other legal research tools.
- Liaise with court clerks, law enforcement agencies, and opposing counsel.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Associates or Bachelor degree in Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience as a criminal law paralegal is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with MEC e-filing, Microsoft Office Suite, and legal research databases.
- Attention to Detail: Strong proofreading and document review skills.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple cases and meet strict deadlines.
- Confidentiality: Strong understanding of legal ethics and client confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Mississippi and Tennessee criminal court procedures.
- Experience assisting in felony and misdemeanor cases.
- Knowledge of legal billing software and case management systems.
