Summary and relationship to the curriculum: This position assists the principal to ensure the effective organization and operation of the school to include the instructional program and related activities in support of the system’s mission.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Assists with facilitating the development, communication, implementation and evaluation of a shared vision of teaching and learning that leads to school improvement.
  2. Assists with directing and supervising the ongoing development and plan for continuous improvement and assists with communication of the plan with stakeholders. 
  3. Assists with developing, advocating and sustaining an academically rigorous, positive and safe school climate for all stakeholders.
  4. Assists with maintaining order and discipline in the school. Implements and enforces clear, consistent student discipline policies.
  5. Administers discipline in accordance with Houston County Board of Education policies and procedures.
  6. Assumes responsibility for all curricular and extracurricular activities assigned.
  7. Assists with gathering, analyzing and using a variety of data to inform planning and decision-making consistent with established guidelines.
  8. Assists in developing and implementing the master schedule.
  9. Assists with supporting, managing and overseeing the school’s organization, operation and use of resources.
  10. Manages, utilizes and supervises financial resources assigned. Keeps an accurate accounting of all funds collected and/or disbursed with assigned accounts. Submits financial reports as requested. 
  11. Assists with effective human resources management through the selection, induction, support and retention of quality instructional and support personnel.
  12. Assists with ensuring that substitute teachers are secured for staff absences, and assists substitutes with instructional concerns.
  13. Fairly and consistently assists with evaluating all school personnel in accordance with state and district guidelines and provides timely and constructive feedback focused on improved student learning.
  14. Demonstrates professional standards and ethics, engages in continuous professional development and contributes to the profession.
  15. Communicates and collaborates effectively with all stakeholders.
  16. May assist in the coordination of the school testing program.
  17. May be assigned as Career Technical and Agriculture Education (CTAE) supervisor responsible for coordinating the school CTAE program and working with the Houston County CTAE Director regarding the system-wide local application and advisory committees.
  18. May be assigned as Athletic Director (AD) responsible for coordinating, organizing and administering the overall program of extracurricular athletics.
  19. Performs any other duties as requested.

 

Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  

  • Education and/or Experience: Must hold a Masters’ degree or equivalent in Education.  Advanced degree a plus.  Five (5) years of professional teaching in a classroom setting preferred. 
  • Certificate of License Required: Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia professional renewable certificate in Educational Leadership.  Master’s degree required; specialist degree or higher preferred. 

a) Language Skills: Must have ability to apply teaching and learning principles to support the understanding of learning and behavior, ability to relay technical information to others in understandable terms, and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.  Must have ability to write professional correspondences and reports.  Must have ability to effectively present and articulate information in one-to-one and group situations to students, parents, school personnel and community agencies.

 

b) Mathematical Skills: Must have knowledge and understanding of general statistical procedures. Must have ability to collect and analyze assessment data, predict outcomes, formulate strategies for obtaining a desired result, and report/present findings in print and chart/graph.

 

c) Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate the problem solving processes and use deductive reasoning. Must have ability to synthesize workable options from given facts, and assist in the development of workable solutions. Must effectively organize, plan and prioritize work.

 

d) Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office and other job specified technologies.

 

e) Customer Service Skills: Must be capable of interacting and communicating effectively with district employees, stakeholders, community members, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.

 

Professional Requirements: Must serve as a role model. Desirable personal characteristics are required. Appropriate dress and grooming consistent with established standards required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, and lift.  Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel.  The employee must be able to exert or lift up to 50 pounds.

 

Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Frequent travel involves exposure to traffic and outdoor elements.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
