Job Summary :
A support care position that assists in patient care and activities for patients of all ages under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse; assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment. Performs other duties as assigned; responsible for constant observation of the EKG monitors; documentation of the monitored arrhythmia under the supervision of the ICU RN as well as reporting changes to an ICU RN and the professional nurse caring for the monitored patient.
Education and Experience :
High school graduate or equivalent; previous nurse aide experience preferred; successful completion of a Certified Nurses’ Assistant Course required; enrollment in a School of Nursing program preferred; high school graduate; 12 lead EKG experience preferred; demonstrated experience with basic arrhythmia or completion of basic arrhythmia class; will be required to view manufacturer’s videotapes on the use the Space labs monitors; will be required to complete a 16 hour training period with ICU preceptor to verify recognition of lethal arrhythmias and general use of monitors; will be required to complete 4 hours of EKG review training annually in addition to annual skills competency and any mandatory programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Good interpersonal communication skills; ability to work independently; ability to use proper body mechanics when lifting, pushing and pulling; motor coordination to work with equipment; ability to understand oral / written instructions; understanding of medical terminology; basic computer skills.
