Position Overview:
Are you a Georgia Certified Peer Specialist-Mental Health (CPS, CPS-MH) or a Certified Addiction Recovery Specialist (CARES or CPS-AD) looking to further your career in the mental health and recovery field? Join our dynamic team and make a meaningful impact in the lives of others!
As a Certified Peer Specialist, you will use your personal recovery experience and specialized training to support peers in their self-directed recovery journeys. Working closely with a dedicated team under the supervision of the Program Director, you will provide compassionate support and advocate for improved access to quality behavioral health services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group peer support.
- Connect peers with appropriate supports and resources.
- Develop and facilitate wellness activities in person, through home visits, and via telephone.
- Offer peer support over the phone, during home visits, and at select medical appointments.
- Engage with and support peers throughout the day at Perry Wellness Center.
- Complete reporting and documentation tasks accurately and timely.
- Ensure the Center remains a safe and healthy environment for all peers.
- Participate in community events to promote awareness and advocacy.
- Accompany peers to medical appointments when assistance or advocacy is requested.
- Minimal local travel as required for home visits, appointments, or professional development.
- Maintain strict HIPAA confidentiality regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals.
Required Qualifications:
- Active Certified Peer Specialist—Mental Health credential (CPS, CPS-MH, or CPS-AD).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Docs; basic computer skills are essential and required.
- Must be 19 years of age or older.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain open communication with management, staff, and peers.
- Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail.
- Capability to work while standing, walking, or sitting for up to 8 hours per day.
- Ability to travel local as needed for home visits, appointments, or continuing education.
- Knowledge of community, state, and national resources and supports.
- Adaptability to interruptions and changes in work priorities.
- Ability to work in a climate-controlled environment.
- Ability to sit for extended periods when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related helping field.
