What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor (Seasonal part-time) position at Person County Government?
Person County Government is recruiting for highly motivated individuals who love working with youth, value teamwork, and thrive in having fun! A Summer Camp Counselor is an important member of our team who is a great leader and positive role model. Thee person in this position will be responsible for leading and building relationships with a group of children, while engaging in summer programming that is fun, culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and safe for children ages 5-11.
This job works under close to general supervision according to set procedures.
This position begins early June and runs through mid-August. Training dates will be the end of May and early June. Hours are dependent on specific camp site needs. Hours are typically between 35-40 hours per week and range Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

- Provide overall daily supervisor of camp operation, counselors and campers.
- Communicate thoroughly with parents, camp staff, and to PCRAP staff.
- Directs daily/weekly activity schedule and ensures staff are on task.
- Communicates camp needs, and supply requests to PCRAPD Recreation Specialist.
- Maintain camper registration, daily check-in/check-out procedures.
- Facilitate all disciplinary actions when needed.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers by providing high quality risk management at all times.
- Accompany campers on field trips.
- Drive activity van to and from off-site locations (must be 18 years or older and must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy).
- Actively engage in all games and activities with campers.
- Be able to lead games, activities in a group setting.
- Build a positive rapport with staff members and campers
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be 16 years of age by your first day of work.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Experience and ability to work well with children ages 5-11
- Have great verbal, interpersonal, and listening communication skills. Including effective communication (verbal and written), enthusiasm, patience, and not a stranger with taking initiative.
- Ability to work well on a team.
Applicant must be able to demonstrate experience in one or more of the following:
- Previous experience as a camp counselor
- holding youth leadership roles in sports, clubs, or community organizations
- working with children in group settings
- supervising or caring for school-aged children.
