The starting salary will be determined with consideration given to both the candidate's educational background and relevant work experience.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.
This is a non-exempt position working 40 hours weekly/2080 hours annually and is eligible for overtime. May be required to work extended hours beyond those scheduled without notice. Will be required to work 12- or 24-hour shifts.
Essential Functions
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Responds to the emergencies arising out of causalities like criminal violence, natural disasters, fires, air and land accidents and provides basic life support to the victims before they are transported to the hospital.
- Determines the right course of action after evaluating the patient’s condition.
- Provides medical aid such as AED, CPR, prevent spinal damage, ventilation, control severe bleeding, prevent shock, bandaging wounds, etc., to stabilize their condition.
- Ensures equipment and ambulance interior is always clean and check and replace used and damaged supplies.
- Prepares a patient care report and takes notes of the medical treatment given to them.
- Summarizes new recruits’ clinical skill level in accordance with Person County EMS standards.
- Restocks all supplies in the ambulance and replaces used blankets, linens and other supplies.
- Attends refresher programs and continuing education as required by medical control, employers, certifying or licensing agencies.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
Special Certifications and Licenses
- EMT Certification in the State of North Carolina or the ability to achieve Legal Recognition by the State of North Carolina Office of EMS upon hiring.
- Current BLS-CPR Certification
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.
Person County conducts pre-employment screening on candidates. Job offers are conditional pending the following:
- A pre-employment drug screen for all candidates. Positions designated by Person County as Safety Sensitive are also subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- A background check for all candidates. Some positions also require a credit check.
- Additional screening and testing required for some positions.
- Within 3 days of the start of your employment with the County, you must be able to provide proof of your eligibility to work in the US.
