Facility Maintenance Technician (Water/Wastewater Focus)

Salary Grade 65 plus local supplement

Qualifications:

  • Extensive and broad experience in the area of well operation and maintenance, water distribution, and subsurface wastewater operations and maintenance
  • Educational Requirements: High school graduation or equivalency
  • Training and state certification in groundwater, subsurface and forced operations
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily monitoring and makes necessary adjustments on groundwater and distribution systems
  • Performs necessary flushing program to assure satisfactory water quality
  • Maintains records and performs calculations to complete monthly reports and documentation on wells, chemical additions and water usage
  • Inspects and repairs lift stations as needed
  • Tests and exercises generators to assure proper operation
  • Performs weekly monitoring of all lift stations and subsurface wastewater systems
  • Performs weekend checks on water systems as required
  • Mows and trims weeds in and around lift stations and storm water containment ponds as needed
  • Maintains state certifications by attendance at training classes and workshops
  • Mows filter beds as needed
  • Monitors and responds to failure notifications on lift stations, pumps, etc.
  • Checks and logs head pressure of pumps at least every six months
  • Maintains pumps, motors, and generators at lift stations
  • Performs daily monitoring and record keeping of Underground Storage Tank (gasoline)
  • Advises administrative assistant when to re-order gasoline supply
  • Completes state required UST renewal forms on all underground heating oil tanks
  • Monitors contractors on the proper pumping and removal of sludge and grease
  • Serves as the locksmith for department
  • Disassembles locks and hardware, performs diagnostic operation to determine problems, repairs, devices
  • Performs measurements and cuts to install locks and hardware
  • Manages key system for all schools, cuts keys when needed
  • Has knowledge of the principles and practices of all locks and hardware
  • Responds to after hour emergencies as requested
  • Performs related tasks as required
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to this job classification within Person County Schools.

 

Work in this classification is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.

Must be able to:

  • walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch
  • work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions
  • use visual acuity required for depth perception and color perception
  • visually inspect small defects and/or small parts
  • use a variety of measuring devices
  • assemble or fabricate parts at or within arm’s length
  • operate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job specific equipment and tools
  • determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
  • observe general surroundings and activities
  • hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels
  • use communication by means of spoken word to express or exchange ideas
  • safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
