What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supportive Care Worker position at Personal Care Attendants, LLC?
Supportive Care Workers at Personal Care Attendants, LLC work with clients one-on-one to support them in accomplishing necessary activities of daily living, such as meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping, apartment care, laundry and organizational tasks, as indicated on individual skill plans. Skill plans are implemented by the Supportive Care Workers using strategies such as oversight, cueing, reminder systems, assistance and modeling.
Although most of the participants we support live in Mission, KS, PCA also serves individuals in other surrounding cities in Shawnee Mission, Olathe, and Gardner, Kansas. Currently looking to fill a position in Overland Park, KS.
The Personal Care Attendants agency, a partner of Down Syndrome Innovations, is a not-for-profit organizations, that enable adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome and autism, to live and work safely on their own with individualized support.
Anywhere from 1 to 4 hour appointments per client. THIS IS NOT AN 8 HOUR SHIFT, GROUP HOME OR ISL POSITION.
Responsibilities are based on specific needs of individual participants but might include:
· Assisting them in tending to hygiene and appearance
· Supporting them in making healthy nutritional choices and preparing meals
· Accompanying them to grocery stores and assisting them with shopping
· Transporting them to hairdresser, medical and other appointments
· Communicating to family regarding participant’s health and safety
· Encouraging and supporting participants to break tasks into manageable steps and work through the steps
· Working with participants on household chores, assisting them and making sure the chores are completed
· Assisting participants in organizing and maintaining organization in their apartments in areas such as closets, cabinets, drawers and desks
· Using positive strategies specific to each participant in helping him or her deal with being frustrated or overwhelmed
· Reinforcing participant’s use of positive coping skills
· Documenting services provided in electronic reporting system
