- Is the schedule flexible, or are the hours set?
- Answer: The schedule is mostly set, but there may be occasional shifts in timing. If you have some flexibility, that would be great!
- Will this be a long-term or short-term position?
- Answer: Ideally, I’m looking for someone longer-term, but we can discuss what works best for both of us.
- Do you need care on weekends or evenings?
- Answer: No regular weekends or evenings, but if you’re open to occasional extra hours, that would be a bonus!
Job Responsibilities

- Answer: Primarily, engaging in play and activities that suit my child’s interests. There’s no housework or cooking required, just basic cleanup of play areas.
- Do you need help with bedtime routines or homework?
- Answer: Nope! This is strictly daytime care—no bedtime or schoolwork involved.
- Will I be responsible for diapering/toileting?
- Answer: No, my child is fully potty trained, but they may need occasional reminders.
- Do you expect me to provide structured activities?
- Answer: A mix of free play and light structure would be ideal. If you have ideas for fun games or activities, that’s great!
Child-Specific Questions
- What are your child’s interests and favorite activities?
- Answer: Imaginative play is huge! My child loves creating stories, pretending to be different characters, and playing outdoors.
- What are the biggest challenges I should be prepared for?
- Answer: My child is autistic, which means they thrive on routine and clear expectations. Transitions can sometimes be tough, so patience and consistency are key.
- Does your child have specific routines or behaviors I should know about?
- Answer: Yes! I’ll provide a simple set of guidelines to help things go smoothly. The biggest thing is sticking to predictable routines and being patient with sensory sensitivities.
- Are there any allergies, medical conditions, or special needs I should be aware of?
- Answer: No allergies or medical concerns—just the need for understanding and patience with autism-related behaviors.
Expectations & House Rules
- Do you allow screen time?
- Answer: Not much during babysitting hours—this time is for play, creativity, and movement!
- What are the rules around outdoor play and outings?
- Answer: Outdoor play is highly encouraged! The yard is great for running around, and walks in safe areas are fine, but no unsupervised outings.
- Are there specific discipline methods or strategies you prefer?
- Answer: I use gentle, positive reinforcement—redirection and clear expectations work best. No time-outs or punishments.
- Can I bring my own activities or games?
- Answer: Absolutely! If you have fun ideas or engaging activities, I’d love that!
Pay & Benefits
- What is the hourly rate? Is it negotiable?
- Answer: Open to discussing based on experience.
- Is there potential for additional hours or last-minute babysitting?
- Answer: Possibly! If you’re open to occasional extra hours, that would be great, but it’s not required.
Logistics & Safety
- Where will the babysitting take place?
- Answer: In my home. No transportation needed!
- Do I need my own transportation?
- Answer: Just to and from the job—no driving my child is required.
- Is there a pet in the home?
- Answer: No pets!
- Can I bring my own child while babysitting?
- Answer: Yes, as long as the children are a good match and you can still provide the attention my child needs. I’d prefer if your child is a toddler or older rather than an infant, since that would make playtime and supervision easier. Let’s chat to see if it’s a good fit!
- Is this a private babysitting job, or is there an option for official employment?
- Answer: My son qualifies for the Medicaid Waiver, we prefer that once you are approved you will apply to be paid through that program. This would require a background check and tax information to become a W-2 employee.
