Job Summary:
The Material Handler's primary objective is to achieve the safe, reliable, and optimum operations of their operating area and safely and efficiently make quality products. Involves bagging, palletizing, labelling, and sampling of finished product in conjunction with maintaining process equipment and sustaining a clean work area.
 
Responsibilities:                    
  • Operate process equipment in the plant in accordance with work instructions.
  • Utilize the bagging shift log to put in pertinent information such as process disturbances, items of interest and equipment issues.
  • Troubleshoot process disturbances per supervision direction (such as operating log and rework log).
  • Responsible for bagging, palletizing, sampling, and labelling of the finished product.
  • Responsible for data entry of finished goods in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the bagging area and warehouse.
  • Demonstrate proper precautions when operating a forklift and ensure all finished goods are neatly stacked and properly placed in the correct storage area.
  • Perform minor maintenance in the bagging area and during periods of shutdown when needed. (Replace gaskets, filters, tighten bolts, etc.).
  • Rework of IDR material when the opportunity presents itself and/or when directed to rework by managers.
  • Support Process Operators with other sections of the plant in accordance with work instructions.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting to supervision, any environmental release or spill to the air, ground, city sanitary sewer, or body of water such as rivers or streams that may have been affected, as well as any malfunctions of plant pollution control.
  • Responsible for performing inspection and sampling of lots to be analyzed by the quality assurance lab.
  • Responsible for detecting and reporting process disturbances, remedying disturbances with established instructions and practices and documenting actions.
  • Responsible to perform assignments in conformance with Perstorp Polyols' quality system standards, complying with safe operating practices and plant safety rules.
  • Responsible to communicate pertinent information to the next shift for a smooth transition and leaving the plant in good housekeeping and operating condition.
  • Responsible to achieve Material Handler I objectives agreed annually.
  • Support and actively participate in the site’s development along the Perstorp careway.
  • Lead by example within the area of responsible care.
  • Comply with the responsible care minimum requirements.
  • Ensure conformance and follow all company policies & procedures and all site health, safety, security, and environmental rules.
  • Actively participate in EHSQ programs (i.e., take care observations, safety training, toolbox talks, incident reporting & investigation and safety walks). 
  • Perform/support other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management and support other employees as necessary in a team effort.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Experience (>1 years) in a chemical plant, refinery, power plant or like industry; or military equivalent preferred.
  • Trained in OSHA hazards communication.
  • Operation of a forklift, man-lift, tractors, and other specialized pieces of equipment preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with basic typing skills for interfacing with process computer and ERP system (SAP) preferred.
     
Competencies:
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and through written text.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities.
 
Work Environment:
  • Routinely exposed to manufacturing environment including all weather elements including extreme climate changes, dirt, dust, vibrations, odor/unpleasant smells, loud noises and chemicals.
  • Occasionally uses office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners and other typical office equipment.  Requires use of electronic mail and ERP systems.
  • Routinely in contact with others (face to face, by telephone, computer or otherwise).
     
Physical Requirements:
  • Maintain a stationary position (sit, stand) and walk, move, climb, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch, climb or balance, use of hands to finger, and reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time.
  • Mobility is required to access all areas on-site and navigate/operate in close quarters, small rooms, narrow aisles, and passageways.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to use all channels of communication (i.e., read/write/speak/hear).
  • Vision sufficient to perform above-described tasks with or without correction.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds repetitively.
  • Comply and pass site regulations for PPE and clearances (i.e., annual physical, Respirator Fit Test, FRC clothing, etc.).
Schedule
12-hour rotating shifts which will include weekends and holidays (36-48 hours per week). Requires the availability to work on-call, overtime/additional shifts which include days/nights, weekend and holiday work as needed depending on business/site needs.
