Team Lead Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Team Lead oversees kennel operations to ensure the highest standards of care, safety, and comfort for canine clients. Combining leadership, operational management, and customer service, this role fosters a cohesive team environment while maintaining exceptional service delivery. Acting as the primary liaison between staff and management, the Team Lead ensures smooth communication, resolves issues effectively, and aligns team efforts with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Scheduling and Availability:

• Complete scheduling worksheets post-release to identify staffing gaps or overages; submit findings to the General Manager within 24 hours.
• Provide on-call support 1–2 times per month to handle emergencies or staff shortages.

2. Staff Supervision and Development:

• Supervise kennel attendants during daily operations, offering guidance and support.
• Train and onboard new team members, focusing on playgroup safety and dynamic management.
• Lead by example in attendance and assist staff with finding shift coverage when necessary.

3. Daily Operations:

• Conduct temperament assessments to evaluate canine social compatibility and manage playgroup dynamics.
• Oversee daily playgroup schedules and delegate tasks like cleaning, feeding, and providing additional services.
• Inspect the Back of House (BOH) areas regularly to ensure cleanliness, odor control, and operational efficiency.
• Verify the completion of daily checklists and timely execution of additional services like baths and nail trims.

4. Communication with Management:

• Report behavioral or medical issues with dogs and document incidents thoroughly.
• Administer minor first aid when needed and recommend operational improvements.
• Collaborate with management to address challenges and implement process enhancements.

5. Customer Service:

• Stay informed about the dogs in care to provide accurate updates to clients.
• Address client inquiries or concerns professionally and recommend appropriate services when necessary.
• Assist at the front desk as required, including bookings and check-ins using kennel management software.

6. Leadership and Marketing:

• Foster a supportive, safe, and positive environment that upholds company values.
• Encourage high team performance and identify opportunities to promote services.
• Participate in marketing activities such as events, promotions, and community outreach.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in a kennel, daycare, or similar animal care environment.
• Strong knowledge of canine behavior and safety protocols.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Flexibility to work on-call, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.
• Proficiency with kennel management software and two-way radios.
• Commitment to high standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer service.

Work Environment:

This role operates in a kennel environment with exposure to loud noise, cleaning chemicals, pet allergens, and various weather conditions during outdoor activities.

Available shifts and compensation: We have available shifts all days of the week. Compensation is $18.00 - $20.00/hour.
