As a Veterinary Assistant in our emergency clinic, you will be a key part of the front-line team assisting veterinarians and technicians during critical and fast-paced situations. Responsibilities for the Veterinary Assistant:
- Patient Support: Assist veterinarians and technicians with immediate, hands-on care for emergency patients, including restraining, monitoring, and stabilizing animals.
- Triage Assistance: Help assess and prioritize incoming cases, identifying urgent situations and ensuring timely treatment.
- Treatment Preparation: Prepare surgical and examination rooms with appropriate equipment and materials, assist in setting up for emergency procedures, and maintain sterility.
- Client Communication: Provide empathetic, clear communication to anxious pet owners, explain basic procedures, and offer comfort during high-stress situations.
- Medical Record Keeping: Accurately document treatments, medications, and procedures, ensuring thorough records for ongoing patient care.
- Filling Prescriptions:
- Inventory Management: Ensure that emergency supplies and medications are stocked and easily accessible for rapid response.
Requirements for the Veterinary Assistant
- High School graduate or equivalent is required
- 1 year working in Emergency Veterinary Medicine or 2 years General Practice Experience is required
- CVA or Completion of a Veterinary Assistant Program is preferred
- Ability to remain composed and efficient in emergency situations.
- Quick decision-making skills and a strong sense of urgency.
- Excellent communication and empathy, especially when working with distressed pet owners.
- Physical ability to lift and handle animals of various sizes in potentially urgent situations.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
