Job Summary

As a Veterinary Assistant in our emergency clinic, you will be a key part of the front-line team assisting veterinarians and technicians during critical and fast-paced situations. Responsibilities for the Veterinary Assistant:

  • Patient Support: Assist veterinarians and technicians with immediate, hands-on care for emergency patients, including restraining, monitoring, and stabilizing animals.
  • Triage Assistance: Help assess and prioritize incoming cases, identifying urgent situations and ensuring timely treatment.
  • Treatment Preparation: Prepare surgical and examination rooms with appropriate equipment and materials, assist in setting up for emergency procedures, and maintain sterility.
  • Client Communication: Provide empathetic, clear communication to anxious pet owners, explain basic procedures, and offer comfort during high-stress situations.
  • Medical Record Keeping: Accurately document treatments, medications, and procedures, ensuring thorough records for ongoing patient care.
  • Filling Prescriptions:
  • Inventory Management: Ensure that emergency supplies and medications are stocked and easily accessible for rapid response.

Requirements for the Veterinary Assistant

  • High School graduate or equivalent is required
  • 1 year working in Emergency Veterinary Medicine or 2 years General Practice Experience is required
  • CVA or Completion of a Veterinary Assistant Program is preferred
  • Ability to remain composed and efficient in emergency situations.
  • Quick decision-making skills and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Excellent communication and empathy, especially when working with distressed pet owners.
  • Physical ability to lift and handle animals of various sizes in potentially urgent situations.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
