As a Veterinary ER Coordinator, you will be responsible for helping to coordinate day-to-day patient care here at the Pet Emergency Clinic and Referral Center.
The ER Coordinator collaborates with veterinarians, clients, and staff members as well as other veterinary clinics/departments to ensure the smooth delivery of high-quality veterinary services! This is an exciting, fast-paced position working at the forefront of veterinary medicine. Are you experienced in Vet Med, detail oriented, customer focused, and driven? Responsibilities for the Veterinary ER Coordinator
- Be present and ready for 7am rounds
- Maintenance of in-hospital software
- Maintain a positive work environment
- Document plan of action for patient (transfer, referral, surgery, or imaging)
- Audit invoices for duplicate or missing charges; compare to estimate(s) and internal software for accuracy
- Coordinate referrals to specialists (WSU, Inland Empire Vet Imaging, etc.)
- Contact primary vet clinics, specialty clinics, other vendors on behalf of DVM
- Contact primary vet clinics for updates, patient records, notifications of death, etc.
- Provide interim medical records for patients being transferred away from PEC
- Create estimates at the direction of DVM
- Provide client updates especially regarding complicated estimates, financial updates, basic patient status updates, and confirm plans for patient
- Enter and fill prescriptions per the DVM on duty
- Create, modify, or complete discharge instructions or estimates at the direction of the DVM and review with client
- All other duties as assigned by a DVM, Manager, and/or Supervisor
- Light vet assisting duty at direction of the DVM
- Order reference laboratory tests at direction of DVM
- Monitor reference laboratory results and ensure they reach the proper DVM/department
- Communication with reception and technical staff regarding estimates, discharges, euthanasia, etc.
Requirements for the Veterinary ER Coordinator
- Must have or be able to obtain a Veterinary Medical Clerk License
- Able to work in a stationary position at a computer for long periods of time
- Possess vision abilities to detect, observe, and assess including- close, distance, color, and peripheral vision as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
- 3 years of veterinary experience is required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Intermediate computer skills
- Typing 55 WPM
- Able to learn and operate various veterinary software applications
- Proficient operation of various office equipment (copier, scanner, fax machine)
- Basic filing and documentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills as well as listening and comprehension
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Effectively handle stressful situations and de-escalate when appropriate
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Able to work independently as well as collectively in a team
- Able to accept and provide actionable and respectful feedback
- Exceptional client communication skills are required
