Key Responsibilities
- Review and provide expert guidance on specific cases of animal abuse and neglect in captive settings, such as roadside zoos and circuses.
- Conduct necessary travel to evaluate the treatment and conditions of at-risk animals across various captive environments.
- Advise on best practices for veterinary care and enhance living conditions for captive animals.
- Research and prepare documentation to support PETA’s animal welfare campaigns.
- Establish and nurture professional relationships with veterinary peers, animal welfare advocates, and relevant governmental agencies to foster collaboration on specific cases and legislative measures.
- Mobilize PETA’s community of members and advocates to engage with policymakers and other stakeholders regarding issues affecting captive animals.
- Monitor legislative developments and support initiatives aimed at improving standards for captive animal welfare.
- Draft public comments on legislative matters concerning captive animals and present PETA’s positions to media outlets.
- Uphold confidentiality in all professional interactions and responsibilities.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of medical and welfare concerns related to captive wildlife.
- Exceptional writing and research capabilities.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating tact and diplomacy.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
