STARTING SALARY: $23.97 to $30.58 per hour. (Initial salary placement is based on related experience)

REQUIREMENTS: Fingerprint Clearance. There is a fingerprint processing fee payable by the employer post-offer / pre-placement. Tuberculosis. The applicant will need to submit evidence that he or she is free from tuberculosis in accordance with Education Code 49406 post-offer / pre-placement. Offer of employment is contingent upon passing a post-offer/pre-placement physical.
QUALIFICATIONS: See job description. Bilingual in Spanish desired. Successful bilingual applicant will be paid an additional stipend of $96 per month. This stipend will be pro-rated for positions that are less than 40 hours per week.

SUMMARY Under general supervision, will train to become a certified school bus driver. Employee will operate a district van over designated routes to transport students to/from school sites and will occasionally provide transportation to/from designated therapy locations. Will assist in the general cleaning and servicing of district vans and school buses; and related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Safely drive a district van over designated routes in accordance with time schedules; may transport students to and from therapy session locations. Pick up and discharge general and/or special needs students at designated stops or site locations. Inspect the van before operating for safety purposes. Wash, sweep, polish, refuel/charge, and report any mechanical defects on vans and vehicles. Complete and maintain trip records, daily vehicle reports, and vehicle inspection reports. Review route changes, passenger changes, challenges, safety hazards, or incidents with the supervisor or designee as needed for recommended actions. Supervise student conduct during transport to ensure safe vehicle operation. Follows district policies regarding student control and contact with the parents and citizens. May perform various transportation and/or fleet-related duties, including making pickups and/or deliveries and performing other related duties as assigned. Renders first aid or emergency assistance as needed. Operates a two-way radio between the van and the Transportation Department. Maintains regular and punctual attendance to fully meet work responsibilities. Attends and participates in required in-service training. Performs other duties as assigned. Understand and implement the plans for emergency situations, ensuring the safety of all students. (Training to be provided) Be able to successfully evacuate students from the vehicle in case of an emergency. Ability to drive a van and other automotive equipment safely and efficiently Maintain order and a positive environment among students in the vehicle. Understand and carry out oral and written directions in English. Ability to deal effectively with various personalities and situations requiring tact, good judgment, and poise. Take responsibility and use good judgment in recognizing the scope of authority. Work courteously with the public and staff, establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, write, and speak English at a level required for satisfactory job performance.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Possession of an appropriate California Operator’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles a safe driving record with the California Department of Motor Vehicles Pass a Commercial DOT medical examination before hire. (District paid) Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test before hire. (District paid) Enroll in an authorized drug testing program and be subject to random drug and alcohol tests. Participate in the CA DMV Pull Notice Program. Must obtain a valid First Aid/CPR Certificate within 30 days of hire. (District paid) Within the first six (6) months of employment must obtain or show steady progress in obtaining a Valid Class A or B Motor Vehicle Operator’s license with passenger transportation (P) endorsement and School Bus Certificate (S).
