What are the responsibilities and job description for the Irrigation Technician position at Pete Dye Golf Club?
Pete Dye Golf Club is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Irrigation Technician for our Turf Care Team. The club is a Top 100 private club, home of WVU Golf's Mountaineer Invitational and was the 2021 host site for the WV Open Championship. It will be an interesting year at the Club as we are installing a brand new HDPE irrigation system managed by Toro Lynx. The position requires working in all types of weather conditions and working cooperatively in a fast-paced team environment. This is a seasonal position. Work week hours range between 40 to 45 hours, dependent on weather and scheduled events. Overtime available, as deemed by Superintendent. Two scheduled days off per week. Added benefits of golf privileges during the season, one meal per shift, and uniforms provided.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The irrigation technician reports to the golf course superintendent and/or the assistant golf course superintendents, lead irrigation technician and assists in achieving yearly agronomic goals. These goals include but are not limited to maintenance and upkeep of the existing irrigation system components, ensuring proper operation of sprinkler heads, quick coupling valves, isolation valves and pumphouse components. The irrigation technician will work cooperatively with the golf course superintendent and/or the assistant golf course superintendent to plan new irrigation installation projects and will maintain the organization of both the golf course irrigation maps and storage of spare components.
· Waters greens, tees, fairways, or any other areas directed by the golf course superintendent/assistant superintendents.
· Maintains inventory of common repair parts and maintains records of repairs performed.
· Maintains organization and programming of satellite controllers, pumps, and pump station.
· Efficiently and accurately diagnoses and repairs the irrigation system, pipes and sprinkler heads as needed.
· Completes requests for irrigation and course parts and supplies.
· Operates a wide manner of golf course maintenance equipment as necessary to maintain course conditioning standards.
· Occasionally supervises a small labor force for special projects and performs other duties as directed by the golf course superintendent/assistant superintendents.
STANDARD:
· Knowledge of agronomy, turfgrass science and the rules of golf.
· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
· Ability to lift, push or pull heavy objects as needed.
· Ability to communicate effectively and keep records of all work completed.
· Ability to operate light motorized equipment.
· Knowledge of and/or ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.
· Possession of a valid driver’s license.
This position is a crucial role to the success of the golf course. Previous irrigation experience is definitely needed. A good attitude, a willingness to learn, and working well in a team environment are the characteristics we are also looking for the most in the candidates.
