What are the responsibilities and job description for the Body Shop Technician position at Peterbilt of Louisiana, LLC?
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
As a Body Shop Technician you will be responsible for performing repairs as assigned in accordance with manufacturer and insurance standards in the shortest time possible while ensuring exceptional service to our customers.
- Perform work as outlined on repair orders associated with heavy duty class vehicle body repair including disassembly. Complete all repairs by hammering, filing, filling, grinding, welding, sanding, etc., and reassembly ensuring industry standards are met.
- Operate hand and power tools necessary including huck gun, welder, plasma cutter, cutting torch, blocks, hammers, wrenches, sander, spray guns, etc.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge sufficient to properly and deftly complete painting assignments.
- Plan efficient work procedures using knowledge of surface preparations and painting techniques within timeframe and materials allowances.
- Responsible for cleaning, sanding, and applying chemical solutions to prepare and condition surfaces prior to painting.
- Mask and utilize protective supplies to cover surfaces not to be painted; removing accessories such as chrome, mirrors and windshield wipers.
- Mix and thin paint or other coatings to proper ratio and consistency according to standard formulas.
- Spray specified amount or thickness of primer, protective, decorative, or finish coatings, such as paint, lacquer, sealer, or enamel, onto prepared surfaces.
- Demonstrated ability to be able to read, write and communicate.
- Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the position.
- Monitor the progress of vehicle repairs to determine the schedule for final assembly
- Complete work in accordance with applicable safety requirements
- Perform proper tool and equipment usage and maintenance
- Strong, consistent attention to detail.
- Maintain a good work attitude and cooperate with managers and fellow employees
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of performing high-quality repairs using up-to-date methods.
- Ability to use all power tools required to perform position.
- Must be able to understand verbal and written instructions related to repairs, ask follow-up questions and communicate clearly any obstacles with meeting deadlines and/or standards.
- Able to operate heavy duty commercial vehicles
- Able to operate a forklift
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of heavy duty body experience & paint repair required.
- Experience with extensive heavy duty vehicle body repairs including panel repairs, rivet and huck bolt & collar replacement, fiberglass repair.
- Body Technicians are required to have their own tools
- High School diploma/GED required, collision tech graduate preferred.
- History of working independently and in a team environment
- Highly organized, able to handle multiple concurrent assignments
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
- Education and/or experience in paint repair
- Ability to exercise good judgment and critical thinking
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.77 - $26.00 per hour
