Position Overview
Petersen Brothers Construction is currently looking for an Estimating Assistant to join our preconstruction team. The primary role of this position is to assist in developing qualified project cost estimates. Duties expected include helping the sales team create a proposal, performing data research, gathering of quotes, tracking project costs, understanding customer specifications, and compiling a final project budget. Additionally, the position may require coordination with the management team to ensure the company has adequate resources to staff projects. The Estimating Assistant maintains responsibility for quality, timely, and efficient completion of all assigned work.
Key Responsibilities
- Download Bid Package, Bid Documents, Front End Documents, Review Bid Requirements, Request bid bonds through Dropbox or other secure websites
- Analyze required Architect, Project Engineer, and Customer documents, blueprints, and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project
- Work with Senior Estimator and/or President to identify labor, material, costs, and time requirements by researching proposals, blueprints, and any related documents
- Print Call Sheets/Select Subs based on Projects criteria and Call Key Subcontractors to get bid verifications
- Preparing material estimates and cost estimates for the product or service
- Developing and maintaining relationships with company vendors and contractors
- Request and manage bids from vendors and contractors
- Use bid data to prepare detailed cost analysis using internal spreadsheet or bidding software
- Compiling and recording actual costs of materials and labor
- Input costs into estimating spreadsheets
- Attend owner meetings as necessary
- Participate in bid walks with subcontractors
- Support estimators with various administrative services
- Help with scheduling production
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field of study
- Experience in commercial construction and/or concrete estimating
- Experience with ProCore, SmartBid, BlueBeam, Excel, Outlook and Word
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a customer-focused attitude, and the ability to communicate with all levels within and outside the organization
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, organize, and be flexible to change
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately under stress
- Effective problem-solving skills; self-motivated and able to work well independently
