What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concrete Carpenter - Meridian Idaho position at PETRA General Contractors?
The Concrete Carpenter provides layout, installation and stripping of concrete formwork systems while receiving direction from Superintendents, Foreman, along with input from Finishers and other Carpenters. The successful candidate will be familiar with typical formwork systems and will receive minimal supervision to perform assigned tasks. Pouring and placement of structural concrete requires knowledge with a variety of tools and machines related to concrete construction.
Key Accountabilities:
- Build and/or assemble wood or metal forms for the construction of concrete floors, slabs, walls, columns, tilt-walls, elevated concrete slabs, elevator cores, stairways, etc.
- Set and erect forms using a wide variety of materials and forming systems.
- Understand layout and checking grades for proper elevation and location.
- Placing and tying rebar.
- Daily use of a variety of hand tools for construction tasks.
- Verify accuracy of structures using a plumb bob, carpenter’s level, laser and/or digital transit.
- Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
- Communicate with Concrete Foreman, Concrete Superintendent regarding any problems arising, materials required, or any safety hazards identified.
- Ensure equipment is all in safe working condition.
- May help signal concrete deliverer to position truck to facilitate pouring.
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety policies and guidelines.
- Assist with the placement of concrete as needed.
- Operating a forklift when necessary
Education And Experience:
- Minimum number three (3) years’ experience in concrete in a similar construction industry. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required OR any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties (required).
- Proficiency in using a variety of hand tools for construction tasks.
- Familiarity with power tools used in the construction industry.
- Forklift operation
- Must be able to place and tie rebar.
- Must be timely to work and dependable.
- Must be able to work the hours that are required by the project.

Working Environment:
- Must be willing to work in all weather conditions, including extreme cold/heat and winds.
- Lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and/or pulling; climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant finger dexterity necessary.
- Personal Protective Equipment: Safety glasses, hard hat and steel toe boots must be always worn.
- Hearing, respiratory and/or fall protection equipment must be worn when required.
