What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Estimating position at Petroplan?
Petroplan is recruiting for a highly skilled Director of Estimating with extensive experience in project controls to join our clients Estimating team.
This role, based in Arlington, Virginia will report to the Vice President of Estimating and play a key role in evaluating project costs and timelines to support effective project planning and decision-making.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a strong grasp of project management principles.
Education & Experience :
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Proven expertise in project controls and estimating within construction, engineering, or related industries.
Experience in the LNG industry is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to collect project requirements, specifications, and scope.
Analyze technical documents, contracts, and project drawings to develop detailed cost, resource, and timeline estimates.
Use specialized software to create detailed cost breakdowns, covering materials, labor, equipment, and overhead expenses.
Align estimates with project objectives by working closely with project managers, engineers, procurement, and construction teams.
Identify risks and uncertainties that could affect costs, and propose mitigation strategies.
Conduct contingency analyses to ensure robust planning.
Develop detailed reports, presentations, and estimate plans outlining assumptions, methodologies, and constraints.
Provide cost estimates for bid proposals to support project contract acquisition.
Update estimates throughout the project lifecycle to ensure accuracy as new data becomes available.
Participate in project review meetings to provide insights and adjust estimates as needed based on project progress.
Contribute to the refinement of project control processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Assist in compiling historical data and developing benchmarks for future estimates.
Technical Skills :
Proficiency in project estimation software, cost modeling tools, and Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Familiarity with project management methodologies and industry best practices.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to various stakeholders.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and adapt to evolving project needs.
