The Party Chief reports directly to the Survey Manager and leads the daily operations of the survey crew. The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Supervising instrument/rod persons
- Managing materials and equipment
- Quality control
- Jobsite and coordinating with other foremen and superintendents for the best utilization of PSCC resources.
- Execute work according to plans and directives received from the Survey manager/Superintendent. Communicate regularly and effectively with the Survey manager/Superintendent.
- Engage in a high level of competence with all technical components of Survey work. (Includes computations, interpreting plan and elevations, construction layout, roadway & Utilities, finish grading, As-built etc.)
- Maintain accurate and “hard” short term schedules. ALWAYS run your project, DO NOT let it run you. A Crew Chief should always strive to have a schedule for activity one week ahead, at a minimum.
- Minimize crew downtime. Always have a back-up plan of work to be performed if your original plan of work is stopped due to timeline setbacks, plan changes, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Be able to read and have a thorough understanding of construction plans as related to survey work.
- Know what resources are included in the assigned work and manage accordingly. (Permanent materials, construction materials, equipment, small tools, etc.)
- Know and understand the production schedule of the work being performed. If production goals are not provided, always ask. Without compromising safety, always strive to maintain the production schedule.
- Excellent verbal/communication skills

- Team player, able to get along with a diverse group of people working towards a common goal
- Ability to stand for long periods; handle and manipulate objects on a repetitive basis.
- Ability to see well and distinguish between back up alarms, voices and other normal sounds consistent with construction job sites.
- Ability to climb in and out of trenches, stand, bend, squat and to lift 80 lbs.
- Work inside and outside in all weather conditions, and various locations and times of day. Hard hat, hearing and eye protection, Hi-visibility clothing required. Must have own transportation to and from jobsite.
