1.0 INTRODUCTION
· This job description defines and details the function, reporting relationships, authority, responsibilities and duties for the position of Survey Crew Chief under Surveying Department of Pettigrew & Associates.
· This position is management, hourly and non-exempt.
2.0 REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
· High School Diploma or GED
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in CAD drafting, Field Inspection, laboratory and/or Field Technician.
Qualifications:
· Must have 3 years experience in Boundary, Topographic and Construction Survey, design Surveys, subdivision plats, ALTA/ACSM surveys, and horizontal and vertical control networks for aerial and GPS surveys
· Must be proficient in the use of field equipment, GPS Total Station, and Robotics. Must be familiar with AutoCAD and Land Development Desktop.
· Must have strong organizational skills to manage multiple task and work instructions, self-directed with good verbal and written communication skills.
· Proficient is the use of computer (Microsoft Office Applications) and CAD,
· Licensing and Certification:
· Must possess a current, valid New Mexico drivers' license and a driving record acceptable to Pettigrew & Associates’ insurance carrier.
Physical Demands:
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job;
· Body Positions - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time. He/she may also be required to sit for prolonged periods of time while completing other duties and responsibilities
· Body Movements - The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of his/her hands to finger, handle, feel and manipulate general office equipment. The employee must be able to bend, stoop and crouch or run on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
· Body Senses - The employee must have command of the senses of sight, hearing, touch and smell. Specific vision requirements include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus and correctable to 20/20. The employee must be able to distinguish between shades of color and communicate via radios, telephones and e-mail.
· Strength - The employee must have the ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
· Working Conditions - This employee primarily works inside in a controlled smoke-free environment. When outside, as work flow determines needs, he/she experiences a full range of weather conditions.
· Noise Level - The noise levels for this position will range from low to high depending upon the job site conditions.
· The employee will regularly drive 4x4, all terrain vehicle, and work sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail.
3.0 BASIC FUNCTION
· Responsible for completing projects by working together with the team and by performing different field surveying activities as assigned by Immediate Superior.
· This position takes an active role in daily activities and processing work accurately and efficiently through the company systems as determined by management and supporting the department as necessary.
4.0 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
· The Survey Crew Chief directly reports to the Survey Manager.
· The following position may occasionally supervise by the Crew Chief position as assigned by the Immediate Superior:
· Survey Mapping Technician
· Engineering Technician
5.0 AUTHORITY
· Take any reasonable action necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position, while it is consistent with 1) established policy, 2) sound business judgment and 3) the achievement of profit.
6.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
· Ensures to work diligently to achieve assigned or department activities, updates the Immediate supervisor if the assigned tasks will not be completed on the expected schedule.
· Ensures to conduct activity in unison with your departmental operations within established policies, procedures, methods, budgets and business professionalism
· Ensures that written Standard Operating Procedures are established for all critical duties of this position by taking an active role in the development and installation of these procedures and best methods. This includes updating Department Manuals accordingly, and cross training affected staff about any changes in SOPs.
· Ensures to maintain a constructive work environment by maintaining organization and priority management in a multi-tasking, changing environment. In that environment, continue to work with other P & A personnel by assisting them to achieve continuous improvement whenever needed.
· Ensures that work areas in the department are clean, organized and presentable to clients and other visitors. Maintains a reasonable work environment by providing adequate safeguards for the work-related health and safety of all staff.
· Ensures to maintain open communications and a harmonious working relationship with all personnel, but in particular with those involved in a direct reporting relationship. Follows written and oral directions completely as instructed by the Immediate superior or Authorized Company Officers.
· Ensures to participate in department meetings for tasks updates and new instructions as well as to resolve work challenges in the assigned task. Provides insightful and enthusiastic teamwork approach that promotes positive attitudes and builds morale among team members.
· Economically utilizes Company resources (time, materials, and equipment) without compromising expected quality, quantity and timeliness. Take initiative to follow up on incomplete issues to expedite completion of task as directed by the immediate supervisor.
· Analyzes costing of repairs and purchases and recommends plans that is beneficials for the Company.
· Follows company procedures and safety protocols.
· Maintains professionalism when dealing with internal and external clients
· Performs other related tasks assigned by the Immediate superior from time to time.
7.0 PRIMARY DUTIES
· Collects accurate data by using different type of surveying tools and downloads the data in the survey file.
o Produces clear and concise field notes and quality field data for project processing.
· Performs different field calculations and data management.
· Reviews and interprets data, designs and blueprint to plan for the of the assigned task.
· Travels to different project locations to perform tasks as assign by the Immediate Superior.
· Updates project status by regularly communicating progress and challenges encountered in all aspects of the project.
· Meets with client to discuss issues and updates or obtains additional project instructions to ensure client satisfaction.
· Complies with the local and safety standard of the job sites while performing the task.
· Secures company assigned equipment and tools at all times. Maintains accuracy of tools by performing regular cleaning ang calibration.
· Secures company assigned vehicles by parking at designated areas, following road regulations, performing vehicle maintenance as scheduled, reports any vehicle problem for repair, and follow company vehicle policies and procedure.
· As team leader, assigns and monitors individual tasks of the team.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
