POSITION SUMMARY
The Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and providing accurate financial reporting. This role involves a variety of accounting tasks, including bookkeeping, tax preparation, and financial analysis, to support the organization's financial health and decision-making processes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures timely filing and remittance of federal and state withholding taxes, maintaining compliance with tax regulations.
- Prepares and submits federal and state unemployment tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws.
- Calculates, files, and remits Texas sales tax, ensuring compliance with state tax regulations.
- Performs monthly bank reconciliations to ensure that financial records align with bank statements, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Accurately records cash receipts in the accounting system to maintain up-to-date financial records.
- Manages the allocation of expenses related to fuel, tools, cell phones, software, and hardware to appropriate accounts.
- Conducts inventory reconciliations for Crawford inventory to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Processes and uploads Positive Pay and ACH payments to ensure secure and accurate payment transactions.
- Reconciles general ledger accounts, including accounts payable and accounts receivable, to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Prepares and posts journal entries for internal billings and cost transfers to maintain accurate financial records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent field.
- 1-3 years of accounting experience in a construction environment, including knowledge of financial reporting, tax compliance, general ledger reconciliation, and journal entries in dynamic, service-oriented environments.
- Experience using Spectrum or similar accounting software for financial management and reporting.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Ability to analyze financial data and identify trends or discrepancies.
- High attention to detail.
