What are the responsibilities and job description for the VP for Enrollment Management position at Pfeiffer University?
Pfeiffer University, located in the beautiful central piedmont region of North Carolina, seeks an experienced and strategic leader with a strong record of progressively responsible leadership to serve as the university's Vice President for Enrollment Management (VPEM). The VPEM will have the opportunity to shape the future of an institution that is at a significant moment in its 140-year history. Pfeiffer, long known for producing outstanding business leaders, public school teachers, musicians, and ministers, has added an array of offerings in the sciences and health sciences in recent years. On the heels of positive accreditation results for graduate programs in Business, Occupational Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies – and with a freshly written strategic plan – Pfeiffer is poised to take a momentous step forward. Pfeiffer seeks a strategic leader to work closely with the president, provost, faculty, athletic director, director of marketing, director of financial aid, and other staff members in order to execute this plan.
Pfeiffer regularly scores in the top 10% of institutions in various areas of the National Survey of Student Engagement – including the NSSE’s questions related to students’ engagement with faculty members outside of the classroom to discuss academic performance, strengths and weaknesses, and vocational discernment. The University's combination of small class sizes, student-focused education, welcoming environment, and innovative and high-margin graduate programs have long been the foundation of Pfeiffer’s success. On the traditional undergraduate campus in Misenheimer, NC, the university delivers 25 academic programs, the most popular of which are Business Administration, Health and Exercise Science, Nursing, and Sports Management. New concentrations in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, nutrition, and other disciplines have been added in this academic year. New student enrollment has risen by 10% for two consecutive fall semesters, and fall-to-spring retention was 89% for the 2024-2025 academic year. The new VPEM will be a person capable of building upon Pfeiffer’s tradition of delivering a transformational on-campus experience to undergraduates while leveraging various technologies to supplement that experience and to improve revenue. Specifically, the strategic plan calls for the Provost and VPEM to collaborate in ways that improve the university’s use of technology to recruit and support online learners.
In recent years, the University has revised her mission and vision to emphasize helping the central piedmont region of North Carolina become a healthier, more prosperous place. In partial fulfillment of this mission, a new campus has been constructed in downtown Albemarle, NC, where Pfeiffer houses its graduate programs in the health sciences. The university’s relationship with Albemarle – the county seat of the county in which Pfeiffer’s traditional campus is located – has been greatly strengthened by Pfeiffer’s new presence and commitment to inject hundreds of graduate students in the downtown area, improving not only health-related outcomes but also the local economy. Pfeiffer is pursuing the addition of more programs in the downtown area, while also seeking to revitalize graduate programs in business and health care administration that are delivered via online learning and have traditionally been rooted in Charlotte, NC.
The VPEM will provide leadership for approximately 12 staff members, as well as student ambassadors. The university seeks:
- An effective and caring communicator who will empower a talented team of admissions counselors;
- A leader who will articulate clearly a vision for the regions in which Pfeiffer should recruit.
Importantly, as a member of the President's Cabinet, the Vice President for Enrollment Management will be a critical strategic partner and advisor to President, Provost, and other members of the university's leadership team. The next VPEM will have the opportunity to execute a comprehensive and long-range but flexible strategic enrollment plan for the University. The university seeks someone who will work with the provost to leverage the strength of graduate programs and the honors program in order to attract strong undergraduate students, and to achieve goals within the new strategic plan that require high levels of collaboration between enrollment management and the division of academic affairs. With a high percentage of the undergraduate population participating in intercollegiate athletics, the VPEM will also be pivotal in working with the athletic department in order to optimize roster sizes, manage discount rates, and ensure compliance with financial aid regulations.
The VPEM position is a 12-month, full-time position. Pfeiffer University offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes: 20 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick days, as well as optional medical, dental, vision, and University covered life insurance. Employees are also eligible to elect additional life insurance, short-term disability, 403b retirement elections, and some additional auxiliary insurance options. Persons interested in applying for Pfeiffer University’s Vice President of Enrollment Management should submit their application, cover letter and CV.
- Masters Degree, PhD, or EdD Preferred and/or appropriate experience.
- Established experience and success with Enrollment Management and working knowledge of collegiate enrollment strategies that results in enrollment growth, persistence, and completion is required.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a successful enrollment management plan as well as work with internal and community partners is highly desirable.
