Primary Purpose:
Provides therapeutic support for children, adolescents and families experiencing social, behavioral or emotional issues that interfere with academic
success. The Social Worker will employ therapeutic interventions with individuals, families, and groups, as well as provide crisis counseling and case
management services. Will facilitate communication between the school, student, community and family to encourage positive working relationships
to help meet the needs of the individual student to be successful in school.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):
Master’s degree from a program accredited by the Council of Social Work Education. Valid Texas Social Work License.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Utilize a strength-based solution focus framework to implement individualized intervention/treatment plans of service using diagnostic
measures.
2. Provide systemic needs assessment for students, families and systems with the goal of improving academic outcomes.
3. Utilize case management skills in connecting clients to outside service providers to obtain long term mental health services.
4. Develop and monitor progress of therapeutic goals that support academic success.
5. Provide appropriate referrals and interventions with families to obtain basic needs resources such as food and housing.
6. Conduct home visits to collect and disseminates information about home environment to school personnel as appropriate.
7. Support students and parents through counseling, guidance and advocacy in order to improve student academic progress and adjustment in
school.
8. Complete required paperwork and maintain complete and accurate records of client contact and services provided.
9. Serve as a member of the district crisis team.
10. Implement appropriate prevention programming to support students and families.
11. Provide Professional Development opportunities to district staff and community members regarding mental health issues and social-
emotional topics.
12. Follow NASW Code of Ethics
13. Follow Educator Code of Conduct & all policies, procedures, laws and State/Federal regulations.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Skills in effective psychosocial assessment, diagnostic measures and intervention plans
Skill in effectively managing student behavior
Knowledge of DSM-5 Diagnostic Criteria
Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, guidelines and procedures
Knowledge of human growth and development, interviewing, individual, family, and group counseling, and consultation skills
Skill in communicating effectively with others
Computer proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Skill in working in collaborative team-based environments
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands):
Maintain emotional control under stress; must be able to lift and/or carry at least 30 lbs independently and over 30 lbs with assistance.
