General Laborer/Material Handler

PGS Worldwide is actively seeking a skilled General Laborer/Material Handler to support ongoing projects for an Aerospace leader in Chesapeake, VA. This is an initial 12-month contract-to-hire opportunity and I will respond immediately to all qualified candidates.

Job Description:

An Aerospace Leader is seeking a successful candidate to perform a wide variety of tasks relating to the incoming and outgoing of equipment, parts, materials, and merchandise. Must be able to learn and execute the Logistics and Asset Management requirements of the United States military and government agencies according to the government's specifications. The candidate assists with the packing, unpacking, by established standards and procedures. Periodically involves some carpentry work along with lifting, movement and placement of heavy items by hand or with the assistance of material handling equipment (forklift, hand-truck or dolly). Must be able to lift to 35 lbs. Must be able to adhere to all company policies and safety procedures. Works with other team members to ensure complete customer satisfaction. Good communication skills to function in a team environment.

• What are the main functions of this role? (Describe the tasks this contractor will be doing. This includes daily activities and any deliverables the contractor will be responsible for.): Performs an array of functions that may include receiving and processing incoming stock and materials, picking and filling orders from stock, packing and shipping orders, or managing, organizing and retrieving stock in the warehouse. Assist shipping and receiving unloading trucks and checking in merchandise. Prepares orders by processing requests and supply orders; pulling materials; packing boxes; placing orders in delivery area. Prepare and stage parcels for shipping or storage. Follow all safety policy and procedures while handling heavy items.

• How will the contractor’s success be measured? (Quantifiable measurements):

Checks is the employee is compliant with company safety policies and procedures. How well the temporary worker performs their tasks, how well they handle specific goals, and how many errors they make. Additionally, how well the temporary worker collaborates with team members to complete moving projects within a set time frame.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• US Citizenship
• Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds safely and efficiently.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Excellent communication and good work ethics

Desired:

• Dependable and Reliable
• 1-2 yrs previous warehouse experience preferred but not required.
