What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineer Level 1 position at PGT Custom Windows and Doors?
Utilizing established procedures, following detailed instructions and with supervision the Manufacturing Engineer -Level 1 is responsible for the routine investigation, development and deployment of machinery, equipment and processes that add value to PGT products. The incumbent has a fundamental understanding and knowledge of engineering concepts, practices and procedures.
- Design and/or prepare drawings and specifications for new manufacturing equipment or modifications to existing equipment, following established Engineering guidelines for content and format.
- Investigate new manufacturing processes and technologies to improve safety, quality, reduce costs or to provide a competitive advantage.
- Evaluate capital equipment investments and justify them.
- Evaluate causes of manufacturing process problems and assist in resolving such problems.
- Responsible for the planning, project management, purchasing, installing, runoff and commissioning of manufacturing equipment and processes.

Computer Skills:
- Word, Excel, Access, Project, CAD (preferably 3D or Inventor). Proficiency levels: Beginner (Level I);
- Knowledge of parts manufacturing equipment and processes; automated and manual assembly processes; tooling, die and fixture design; engineering mechanics, heat transfer, electrics and electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics; control system principles and equipment, and statistical process control.
- Demonstrated knowledge of high mix/volume manufacturing methods, procedures, and cost-reduction techniques in a Lean environment; working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools: including 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Pull Systems, Cellular Manufacturing and Kaizen events.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related college degree) and 0-1 years engineering experience or 8 years of relevant experience.
