Phanes Therapeutics is a clinical stage biotech company focused on innovative discovery research and clinical development in oncology. The company has three programs in clinical stage: spevatamig (PT886) for pancreatic, gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) and gastric cancers, peluntamig (PT217) for small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC), mavrostobart (PT199) for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and pancreatic cancer. Both PT886 and PT217 have received Orphan Drug and Fast Track designations from the FDA. Job Summary:

This position is on-site full time in San Diego, CA. The candidate will work independently to engage pharma partners and manage existing partnerships. The candidate is expected to have strong skills in driving the business development process. Work experience in the life science setting (academic institutions or biotech/pharma industry) is required. The candidate must be a team player and is expected to have good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • The candidate should have licensing/business development experience in a life science-based entity.
  • The candidate should have a good understanding of the drug discovery and development process.
  • This candidate is expected to work with project teams to fully understand the key aspects of the pipeline and technologies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Able to understand and follow the guidance from the senior management on the company’s business development strategy. Seek to understand the biotech deal-making market in the oncology disease area, stay current on the competition landscape and able to present summaries and updates to the senior management.
  • Scout for out-licensing and partnership opportunities.
  • Under the supervision of the senior management, coordinate business interactions with potential partners.
  • Run the business development process to support the senior management in partnership engagement and negotiations with biotech and pharma companies.
  • Manage, support and coordinate the business aspects of existing partnerships by working with the internal team and external partners.

 

Qualifications:

  • The candidate must have business development experience in the life science setting (academic institutions or biotech/pharma industry), including out-licensing, R&D collaborations, and/or mergers and acquisitions (M&A). Finance and banking experience is a plus. The candidate is expected to have strong interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate must be a team player and is expected to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The candidate should have prior scientific background in biotech or related areas with a good understanding of the drug discovery and development process.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of biological sciences.
  • At least 2 years of work experience of business development and/or alliance management in the life science setting (such as the biotech or pharmaceutical industry).
  • Experience of supporting licensing and/or business transactions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Compensation will be commensurate with experience and skillset.

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $120,000 - $197,000. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills.
