Job Summary:
The RTD Beverage Development Scientist provides technical R&D expertise - working closely with manufacturing development, operations, and the customer to design custom formulations. They oversee product/process development from concept through commercialization for current & potential clients, including hands-on formulation, scale up, & manufacturing support.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Ideation & development of health & wellness focused beverage products.
- Provide knowledge on process & technologies available for nutraceutical manufacturing.
- Perform & monitor bench-top & manufacturing scale-up batches.
- Resolve technical challenges.
- Master the internal formulation systems for development & commercialization.
- Build relationships with suppliers & partners to access ingredients, education, packaging, consulting, & technology that could help bring competitive advantage.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current trends, technologies, ingredients, processes, & equipment within the dietary supplement & functional food industries.
- Work with competent Process Authorities in determining sufficient processing needs.
- Create Supplement Facts panels for products based on current regulatory requirements.
- Clearly present & articulate product ideas & innovations to internal & external customers.
- Light travel (1-3 weeks per year).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Beverage manufacturing, specifically under acidified foods regulation.
- Experience with flavor systems, flavor development, & sensory evaluation techniques.
- Strong beverage/RTD formulation skills.
- Product development process for food & beverage.
- Firm understanding of ingredient functionality & nutrition.
- Strong communication skills, written & verbal.
- Moderate computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Experience conducting plant trials/process validation testing.
- Familiarity of product shelf-life testing procedures including establishing overage needs.
- Sound foundation in Food Science &/or Chemistry.
Education & Experience:
- Four-year college or university degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or related degree.
- 5 years of beverage/RTD formulation & development.
