What are the responsibilities and job description for the Network/Systems Engineer position at Phaxis?
Key Responsibilities:
- Virtualization Management:
- Design, implement, and maintain VMware vSphere and Hyper-V virtualized environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and disaster recovery.
- Deploy and manage virtual machines (VMs) and related infrastructure, including networking and storage configurations.
- Monitor and optimize virtualized environments to ensure the best performance and resource utilization.
- System Administration:
- Administer VMware vCenter, ESXi hosts, and Hyper-V clusters, ensuring smooth and efficient operation of virtual environments.
- Perform routine system maintenance, including patches, updates, and backups for virtualized environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to virtualization platforms, guest operating systems, and virtualized network/storage environments.
- Performance & Security:
- Implement and maintain security best practices for virtualized systems, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot any performance-related issues to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
- Plan and implement disaster recovery and business continuity strategies for virtual environments.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Document and maintain configurations, procedures, and architecture designs for VMware and Hyper-V infrastructures.
- Generate regular reports on system performance, incidents, and improvements.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external standards and regulations.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with other IT teams, including network and storage administrators, to integrate and optimize virtualized infrastructure.
- Provide Tier 2/3 support for virtualization-related issues and collaborate with vendors for problem resolution.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in managing VMware (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter) and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
- Strong understanding of networking, storage, and server architecture as they relate to virtualization.
- Proficient in managing virtualized environments, including VM deployment, performance tuning, backups, and disaster recovery.
- Experience with virtualization automation tools (e.g., PowerCLI, Veeam, SCVMM) is a plus.
- Solid knowledge of Linux and Windows server operating systems in a virtualized environment.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Relevant certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or other related certifications are a plus.
Salary : $90,000 - $100,000
