The Payroll Associate is responsible for processing and maintaining accurate payroll records for the organization. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, manages payroll deductions and benefits, and provides support for audits and reporting. The ideal candidate has experience handling payroll in a non-profit environment, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to supporting the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly or monthly payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain payroll records, including salaries, deductions, garnishments, and benefits.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and labor regulations.
- Work closely with HR to update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and salary adjustments.
- Administer and reconcile payroll deductions, including health insurance, retirement contributions, and wage garnishments.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, including W-2s and 1099s, in coordination with the finance team.
- Assist with annual audits and provide payroll reports as needed.
- Address employee inquiries related to payroll, tax withholdings, and direct deposits.
- Stay updated on payroll-related laws and regulations to ensure organizational compliance.
- Support the finance team with additional payroll-related administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
- Skills:
- Proficiency with payroll software (ADP, Paychex, Paycom, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
