What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Age Program Summer Staff position at Phelps Community Center?
This position is for our 9-week summer program working with children ages 4 through 12 years old. Perfect for the on-break college student! There are year-round positions with full time and part time shifts available.
The position is available as soon as possible.
At the Phelps Community Center, we offer comprehensive childcare to children ages 6 weeks-12 years old. This position is with our School Age Program, which cares for children aged 4-12.
Participate in a fun-filled summer with weekly events or field trips where we pride ourselves on safe, positive, and fun environments!
All schedules are Monday-Friday, and within the hours of 5:30am-6:15pm
Must have reliable transportation to/from Phelps Community Center
Learning Environment:
- To assist in providing a safe, cheerful and motivating environment for the children.
- To assist in the supervision of children in all activities, inside and out.
- To assist in maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly classroom, with stimulating learning centers and hands-on activities.
- To assist in the preparation and care of materials.
- To give input to planning classroom activities and Center events.
- To assist in maintaining order and discipline in the classroom.
- To know every child as an individual, observing and recording growth and development.
- To interact frequently with children in a positive, respectful, responsive, and encouraging manner.
Parent and Staff Communication:
- To know every child’s parent (s) by name, and to communicate positively with them.
- To work cooperatively with Center Staff and Administration.
- To assist new and substitute staff assigned to the classroom.
Professionalism:
- To attend and participate in training sessions and a minimum of 15 hours or required per year.
- To be supportive of the Center and Center Administration.
- To seek professional growth and development, attending at least two outside workshops per year.
- To maintain a positive work climate.
- To maintain a professional image.
General:
- To follow daily schedules and routines.
- To follow Center policies, practices, and procedures.
- To assist with required record-keeping.
- To, at times, be responsible for a group of children without assistance.
- To follow all licensing regulations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Increasing knowledge of NYS child care regulation.
- Increasing ability to maintain positive relationships with children, co-workers, and parents.
- Increasing ability to use constructive methods for maintaining group control and individual behaviors.
- Increasing ability to use sound judgment and tact.
- Increasing ability to work as a team member.
- Flexibility
- Creativity and patience.
- Ability to reach a child 20 – 30 feet away within 30 seconds.
- Ability to crouch to a child’s height, maintain eye contact at the child’s level, and sit on the floor for extended periods of time on a regular basis.
- A strong sense of responsibility.
Pay TBD based on schooling and experience
High school diploma or equivalent is required, experience with children preferred.
