General Summary
- The Anesthesia Technician performs tasks and functions which support the efficient operations of the Anesthesia department and Surgery department working closely with the Anesthesia department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains inventory and orders anesthesia equipment and supplies in a cost efficient manner. Coordinates ongoing anesthesia equipment maintenance.
- Gathers needed supplies and assists with peripheral nerve blocks, epidurals, intubations, coordination of repairs, drawing of intra-operative labs, and in remote anesthesia services.
- Assists in room turnover in the procedural areas.
- Assists with departmental functions such as maintenance of department credentialing and CME files. Assists with scheduling of and maintains certification files for BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP. Assists in performing quality improvement as needed. Assists with onboarding of new providers in department.
- Serves as liaison between biomedical engineering, supplies and materials management, and vendors when needed.
- Monitors sterile field and timeout compliance with anesthesia procedures.
- Assists with anesthesia clinic duties when available
- Serves as liaison between AHEC and Anesthesia Department for anesthesia and medical students.
Education
- Associate degree preferred
Work Experience
- Minimum of one year in hospital setting
Certification/License
- America Heart Association BLS required
Mental/Physical Requirements
- Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
- Operating room suite conditions with occasional predictable periods of high pressure due to trauma and other critical situations.
