General Summary
- The Lean/Quality Improvement Specialist works with hospital departments and Medical Staff to assist in the coordination, facilitation and implementation of LEEP/Lean projects, performance improvement efforts and regulatory compliance. The Lean/Quality Improvement Specialist works and interacts in a positive manner, with the Medical Staff and the clinical departments to communicate and lead LEEP/Lean teams, quality improvement efforts and regulatory compliance efforts. The Lean/Quality Improvement Specialist combines statistical knowledge and technical expertise to perform data collection, aggregation and analysis of data to communicate the findings to the various stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews data from internal and external systems to identify trends that affect the quality, cost effectiveness and delivery of services.
- Prepares and analyses statistical reports on Lean/Quality improvement activities.
- Communicates effectively, information obtained from the statistical reports to various stakeholders and reports back any data discrepancies and/or recommendations for changes.
- Collaborates with Lean/LEEP team leaders, staff and physicians in developing and implementing improvement projects.
- Acts as a resource for department directors, organization leaders, employees and physicians for understanding and implementation of the LEEP/Lean and quality improvement activities according to the standards of the regulatory agencies.
- Assists with the preparation and execution of any regulatory surveys.
- Participates in department projects meeting deadlines and assigned responsibilities.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required with an emphasis in Lean and/or quality improvement principles. Registered Nurses with acute care experience as a healthcare professional and a working knowledge and skill with computers will be considered. Microsoft expertise with strength in Excel program is required.
Work Experience
- Three (3) years’ experience in hospital setting, preferred. Need strong written and verbal skills and ability to interpret financial and statistical reports. Need the ability to communicate in a positive and clear manner to medical and clinical staff. Need working knowledge of Microsoft programs; especially Excel and Visio and be proficient in using the internet to find clinical benchmarks.
Certification/License
- Registered Nurse must be licensed in Missouri desirable
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification is desirable
- Lean/Six Sigma certification is desirable
Mental/Physical Requirements
- Considerable mental concentration for sustained periods of time on variable operations. Requires repetitive dexterity tasks. Majority of the time spent on a computer. Works in close proximity to others in a distracting environment. Occasional walking and sitting 6-8 hours a day.

- Standard office conditions; well lighted, climate controlled area. Potential for exposure to infectious diseases.
