Job Description:
The paraprofessional serves as a supportive assistant to classroom and special education
teachers. Under the supervision of a licensed special education teacher, the paraprofessional
may assist with classroom management, data collection, small group and individual instruction,
coaching, monitoring, direction/redirection, and, at times, physical support for students with
special needs.
Job Qualifications
● Paraprofessionals are expected to hold a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of
post-secondary education, or an associate’s degree.
● Paraprofessionals should have prior experience working with children in a school setting.
● Preferred skills include second language abilities, experience working with special needs
students, and ABA strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Assisting students in achieving academic and social successes
● Behavior support using verbal de-escalation strategies
● Ability to be trained in Safety Care
● Personal Care/Toileting
● Consultation and collaboration with Special Education and Regular Education
Teachers, as well as related service staff
● Any other duties as may be assigned by the building administrator
