INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Instructional Technology Specialist
SUPERVISES: Programs and personnel to be determined by the Superintendent
JOB GOAL: To provide instruction, training, and resources in order to assist
educators in the integration of technology in the classroom.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
Minimum 3 years of successful teaching experience
Valid Alabama Teaching certificate
Proven experience using computers, Smart Boards and/or Promethean Boards, and mobile devices such as iPads in the classroom; experience in 1:1 initiative preferred but not required
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: The Superintendent of Schools
SALARY: To be determined commensurate with the local salary matrix, credentials, and experience.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:
1. Assist in planning for effective implementation of curriculum to ensure that technology is
used effectively to meet students’ needs in grades K-12.
2. Demonstrate on a regular basis the use of technology in the classroom to improve
teaching and learning.
3. Provide sustained, in-depth professional development for staff that focuses on the
integration of technology and curriculum.
4. Train and mentor teachers to develop and implement lesson plans that integrate standards
from K-12 Alabama Course of Study: Technology Education into the district curriculum.
5. Encourage learning activities that take advantage of computers, mobile devices,
applications, the Internet and the learning management systems.
6. Make continuous improvements in key processes, techniques, and procedures related to
the instructional technology program.
7. Provide frequent feedback to staff members and administrators regarding instructional
technology.
8. Continually search for, evaluate, and implement use of new instructional resources
including software, web sites, and distance learning opportunities.
9. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
10. Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.
11. Participate in collaborative processes to develop school improvement plans and school
technology plans.
12. Assist in orienting new staff.
13. Develop and continually improve professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
14. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
15. Communicate effectively (in both verbal and written formats).
16. Any other duties deemed necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees in this position must have the ability to:
1. Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
2. Enter data into a computer terminal/typewriter, operate standard office equipment,
and use a telephone.
3. See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aides.
4. Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
5. Speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone.
6. Stand, walk and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull and move, lift and/or
carry up to 25 pounds at waist height.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Employees in this position will be required to work indoors in a standard office environment and come in direct contact with PCBOE central staff, district staff, and the public.
