Housemother Role Overview
The Housemother has been an integral part of our chapter for several decades. The Housemother is turned to for many roles in the chapter. Most importantly, the Housemother serves as a "mother away from home" to young men transitioning from home to university living as they prepare for college and life after college. While not expected to be a professional counselor, she is encouraged to be ready to listen to brothers about their problems or concerns. She is encouraged to educate the brothers on etiquette and manners for all situations.
The Housemother is an employee of the House Corporation and plays an important role guiding and supporting the daily operations of the house, social functions as well as a liaison between the undergraduate members/cabinet and the Mother’s Club and various graduate brother leadership boards
Housemother Responsibilities & Requirements
- Dining and Hosting It is a tradition for the Housemother to regularly dine with the undergraduates as well as host events
- Policy Compliance Follow FIJI policies and report rule violations to leadership.
- Leadership Collaboration Regularly meet with the undergraduate President and Cabinet to discuss house operations.
- House Management Open and close the house during vacation periods with the House Corporation and oversee the cleaning process
- House Maintenance Ensure the house is clean, safe, and well-maintained. Work with the House Corporation to identify and coordinate any repairs and maintenance.
- Supply Management Order necessary supplies within budget and maintain vendor relationships.
- Food Service Support Assist with menu planning and food management.
Housemother Qualities & Experience
- Advocate for mental and physical well being of the undergraduates
- Previous experience as a fraternity house mom highly preferred
- Background in education or counseling preferred, but experience can prevail
- Understand the FIJI culture and mission
- Be available to calm nervous moms
- Flexible and adaptable and NOT an alarmist
- Understand the importance of cooperation with the boys, House Corp, Board of Chapter Advisors, and Purple Legionnaire (primary graduate advisor)
- Have an “open door” policy and be a resource for the boys

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $40,000
- Utilities: water, power and internet provided
- Housing: 2 story apartment with kitchen, bath and laundry available all year
- Meals: Included and available when served to undergraduates

Schedule:
- Every weekend
- Monday to Friday
