Philadelphia Animal Specialty and Emergency (PASE) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Anesthesia Veterinary Technician pursuing a position in an exceptional hospital environment fostering continued growth and development. A PASE Anesthesia Veterinary Technician will work with veterinary assistants, other veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and a board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist to provide exceptional care for small animal patients undergoing elective or emergency procedures within a multidisciplinary specialty hospital.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrating commitment to further education and growth within a teaching environment.
- Developing individualized peri-anesthetic management protocols with emphasis on safe, efficient, and progressive medicine.
- Assisting in maintaining efficient daily flow of preanesthetic preparation and case prioritization.
- Demonstrating proficiency in placement of peripheral, arterial, and central venous catheters, intubation, and other anesthesia-related technical skills
- Demonstrating proficiency in pre-, peri-, and post-operative patient monitoring and recovery.
- Preparing, organizing, and maintaining operating room equipment and appropriate anesthesia inventory stocking.
- Demonstrating proficiency in maintaining anesthesia equipment and machines including, but not limited to, ventilators.
- Patient management with roles including but not limited to: streamlining pre-operative patient intake and client communications, obtaining pre-anesthetic diagnostics, assisting other services (primarily Internal Medicine, Neurology and Surgery) with anesthetic needs, and occasionally coordinating and facilitating patient discharge.
- Providing oversight and training to technicians learning and performing anesthesia in other services, and assisting the anesthesiologist in developing training programs and educational materials
Schedule:
- Full-time: 36-40 hours/week ( 4x10 hour shifts, 5 x 8 hour shifts, or 3 x 12 hour shifts)
- Current anesthesia service hours are Monday-Friday, however weekend availability may be discussed based on future hospital growth and service needs
- On-call availability to be discussed, additional wages and on-call fee provided for after-hours anesthesia cases
Qualification and Education:
- At least three (3) years of veterinary anesthesia experience required, specialty experience preferred
- Ability to perform advanced procedures including use of the anesthetic ventilator, placement of arterial catheters, central venous catheters, locoregional blocks (via electrolocation or ultrasound) are a plus
- CVT or LVT equivalent certification required
- Specialty certification (VTS Anesthesia & Analgesia) is a plus
